Problem: Cerebral palsy (CP) is a chronic disorder resulting from damage to the developing central nervous system. CP is characterized by difficulties in movement and muscle control and can significantly impact an individual's daily life. However, individuals with cerebral palsy not only face physical challenges but also social and emotional difficulties. They may often experience exclusion, stigma, discrimination, and accessibility issues in society.
Solution: A comprehensive approach must be adopted to improve the quality of life for individuals living with cerebral palsy and to ensure their full integration into society. This approach should include early diagnosis and intervention, personalized treatment and support services, increased education and employment opportunities, and raising social awareness and acceptance. This is of great importance to support children's development and prevent potential issues. In education, specialized educational programs and support services should be developed for individuals with cerebral palsy. These programs should be designed to meet individual needs and abilities, allowing individuals to maximize their potential. Additionally, education and awareness campaigns should be organized to increase societal awareness about cerebral palsy. Increasing employment opportunities is also important. The support of employers and society is necessary to encourage the participation of individuals living with cerebral palsy in the workforce and to remove employment barriers. Accessible work environments and vocational training programs can support the employment of individuals with cerebral palsy. Increasing social awareness and acceptance is important to ensure the full integration of individuals with cerebral palsy into society. This includes correcting misinformation, preventing discrimination, and advocating for the rights of individuals with cerebral palsy.
As Team 3390, we took a significant step by establishing Serçev Robotics to ensure that young people with cerebral palsy have a hopeful and successful future. We worked diligently to empower and support these young people in the STEM field, enabling them to discover and develop their potential. The support we provided, such as mentoring, sharing experiences, and providing needed resources, contributed to their academic and personal growth. The materials and workspace we provided not only helped them develop technical skills but also boosted their confidence, reinforcing their belief in success. As a result, these young people were encouraged to strive for larger goals with confidence in their abilities, leading to a decrease in school dropout rates. There was an increase in enrollment in schools as STEM and robotics applications increased. By supporting the existence of individuals with cerebral palsy in the STEM field, we enable families to look to the future with hope. Creating an environment where they can contribute to society by revealing their potential is a source of great pride for us. The establishment of Serçev Robotics demonstrates the strength of human determination. As Team 3390, the establishment of Serçev Robotics and the significant success of our siblings with cerebral palsy not only contributed to their individual development but also demonstrated that everyone can fulfill their potential by breaking down prejudices in society. This highlights the importance of self-confidence and shows what people can achieve when they believe in their abilities. Members of Serçev Robotics have not only reached their goals but also inspired and encouraged other individuals with cerebral palsy. They have been a source of inspiration for sustainable success by being awarded the Judges Award and Create Award in the last two VEX V5 Ankara Tournaments. Creating awareness in society, changing perceptions, and emphasizing that everyone has equal rights have become not just a goal but a way of life for this group.
Impact: Full integration of individuals living with cerebral palsy into society can increase overall societal well-being by allowing individuals to realize their potential and make valuable contributions to society. This integration can create a more diverse and inclusive society by showcasing the strengths and talents of individuals with cerebral palsy, thereby fostering a more fair and egalitarian community. Utilizing various strategies simultaneously is important to ensure the full integration of individuals with cerebral palsy into society. These strategies include providing accessible education and employment opportunities, developing infrastructure and policies to remove barriers, and creating social awareness and sensitivity. Implementing these strategies can improve the quality of life for individuals living with cerebral palsy and make significant progress in combating social exclusion.
